Marlene Dietrich was a German born beauty that was strongly anti-Nazi and despised anti-semitism; she became an American citizen in 1937. When the U.S. entered World War II Dietrich became one of the first celebrities to raise monies for war bonds. She entertained troops on the front lines in a USO revue with Danny Thomas .In 1947, she received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her strong stand against Nazism and for supporting American troops and was also made a chevalier (later commandeur) of the Légion d'honneur by the French government.

Short Biography: During World War II, Marlene made her intentions towards the Hitler regime clear by not only becoming a US citizen, but also by entertaining USO troops overseas and recording anit-Nazi broadcasts in German. She was awarded with the U.S. Medal of Freedom, one of the highest civilian American honors, and was similarly awarded in France with a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. It is also during this period she made the remarkable films, Kismet and Pittsburgh.
