She was, until her death, a very heavy smoker. Spouse(s); She herself famously said, "My goal was to have one husband and seven children, but it turned out to be the other way around.": Artie Shaw (1940–1940); Stephen Crane (1942–1943, 1943–1944); Henry J. Short Biography: At the age of 10, Lana Turner moved from her native Idaho to Los Angeles with her mother after the robbery and unsolved murder/robbery of her father. She was a gorgeous 17 year old youngster and got her first small part in a 1937 movie called They Won't Forget and series of similar parts following this eventually lead to her notoriety and she became known by a growing audience of admirers as the “sweater girl”. The most stunning beauty to grace the silver screen in years Lana Turner became a highly popular pin-up girl with GIs during the forties. Her life and film career went through many ups and downs, but over the years she gave some great performances and compiled a bunch of really good movies. Her career actually improved after the 1958 scandal where her 14-year-old daughter Cheryl Crane stabbed and killed Turner's mobster boyfriend,Johnny Stompanato; the judge ruled it self defense. |
